“Operation Marriage,” the favorite short film that I have made last year, will show at the upcoming San Diego Asian Film Festival in November. After my Beijing-shot “Wedding Plan” premiered online, I was sent a children’s book by author Cynthia Chin-Lee.
After reading “Operation Marriage,” I knew I had to make it into a short film for the world to enjoy. I recruited producer Alan Reade who went on the journey with me to make “Operation Marriage” that we released last Christmas on-line.
“Operation Marriage” was a joy to film with our leading ladies Mindy Cohn and Tamlyn Tomita who play two moms trying to get married for their children before the passing of Prop 8. Besides being a historical document, it’s a story of family, friendship and the real implications of struggle for equality and LGBT rights worldwide.
As a filmmaker, I really enjoy making short films that succinctly tell little stories and illuminate little ideas.
